Building Confidence and Mastery for Our Horses

Over recent years we have noticed positive changes in horses (and their humans) who we have had the pleasure to help. We are often asked to help work through fears or anxiety and because of the way in which we currently structure movement tasks with our horses and we have found that horses are using certain physical movements for themselves in times when they feel anxious. In turn they are becoming more masterful and confident. Other horses who do not have any specific anxiety issues become more confident and masterful as well. Part of the value of our work means we:

  1. Learn how to track our horse’s nervous system and respond appropriately, and
  2. Respect the short window of opportunity we have to change our horse’s mind.

We will explain these concepts during this workshop but primarily this workshop aims to help you help your horse develop mastery and confidence and to be able to identify the nervous system states your horse may be in, at any moment in time. We will add more workshops to specifically use these to help change our anxious horse’s mind.

We are available for coaching through any of these lessons (just contact Julie at ausclickerconnection@gmail.com

Julie Lannen holds a diploma in Equine Training and Coaching and is a registered animal training instructor with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC). Julie has a diploma in Equine Psychology as well as an MBA, and apart from having been a practicing lawyer for over 30 years, she has an Honours Degree in Psychology where her thesis related to the locus of control in children who suffered abuse. She finds that strategies to help children take control over their lives are very similar to those which many of our horses need to live a fulfilled, satisfied and joyful life. Julie teaches clicker training and CAT-H on a regular basis and has a preferential focus for those horses who need some extra help. She is the principal owner of the Australian Clicker Connection and was a member of the original working party with Professor Rosales-Riuz who developed CAT-H; Constructional Approach Training for Horses.
